Hand Woven Indian Shawl

Hand-woven wool shawl. Indian, early 19th century.

Approximately 180cm square plus fringe.

Three squares on the borders have been restored, and a few small darns. Overall in very good condition.

Exactly the kind of shawl that inspired the development of the Norwich and Paisley shawl industries. Theirs, of course, were woven on the Jacquard loom rather than hand- woven like the Indian ones.
